18th Century Italian Louis XIV Gold Gilt Baldacchino Bad Crown
Monumental and extraordinary gold gilt ("on bolo" technique), demilune shaped, wall-mounted, luxury bed crown, from which the Baldacchino canopy drape suspends over the bedstead to ensure privacy. The Sacrament of Matrimony, Holy Union of Bridegroom and Bride and their Pledge of Everlasting Love, are symbolized by this exquisite orthodox architectural element. Beautiful Baroque details, Louis XIV, circa 1790.
