"Mecca gold gilt" process over silver gilt. Ca 1780
Deeply hand-carved Roman Baroque console table on four legs gilded with the antique technique of "Mecca". A 17th Century gilding process technique of coloring the actual silver leaf with a gold varnish (Mecca) to make it appear as gold leaf. 18th century, center of Italy, probably Rome, carved wood with plaster and silver leaf gilding. The marble top is fine Malachite and is following the shape of the console.
