Classic Italian bust of Hermes, composed of "grisaglia," the local white cement mixture of tiny stones, impregnated with lichen & moss from aging in the garden. Lake Como, Italy area.

Circa 1890.

In Greek & Roman mythology, Hermes (also known as Mercury), son of Zeus, was clever & mischievous. Serving as the messenger of the gods of Olympus, he represented good times, good luck & wealth, and travel (with his winged cap and sandals).
